Preparation Before Starting Your Trezor
Before beginning the setup of your Trezor hardware wallet, ensure you have the following ready:
- A compatible device with Windows, macOS, Linux, or an Android smartphone.
- A recent version of supported browsers such as Chrome or Brave.
- A secure place to write down your recovery seed phrase, such as the supplied recovery card.
- A stable internet connection for downloading Ledger Suite and firmware updates.
- Your Trezor device package that shows no signs of tampering with its holographic seal intact.
Connect Your Trezor Device
Connect your Trezor hardware wallet to your computer using the included USB cable. The device will power on and display a welcome message, prompting you to visit the official setup page.
Confirm the security seal and never use the device if you detect tampering or damaged packaging. Proper physical security is the first layer of defense to protect your digital assets.
Install and Open Trezor Suite
Go to suite.trezor.io and download the appropriate version of Trezor Suite for your operating system. Install the software and launch it.
Trezor Suite will detect your connected hardware wallet and guide you through the installation of device firmware if needed. Always keep your firmware updated for enhanced security and new features.
Initialize Your Wallet
Inside Trezor Suite, you can choose to create a new wallet or recover an existing one using a recovery phrase.
- Create New Wallet: Generates a new secure seed phrase unique to your device.
- Recover Wallet: Restore your wallet using an existing seed phrase, allowing you to regain access to your funds on a new device.
Secure Recovery Backup
Your 24-word recovery seed is the key to restoring your wallet if your device is lost or stolen. Write down your recovery phrase on the provided recovery card and store it safely offline.
Do not store your seed phrase digitally or share it online — protecting this phrase is paramount to securing your crypto assets.
Set Your Device PIN
Secure your Trezor hardware wallet with a PIN to prevent unauthorized access. The PIN code is entered using the device’s physical buttons or touchscreen, preventing remote attacks.
Choose a strong PIN you can remember but difficult for others to guess. The PIN is requested each time you connect your device.
Finalize Your Setup and Start Managing Crypto
Once your device is initialized, seed phrase backed up, and PIN set up, you can proceed to activate cryptocurrencies you want to manage.
Trezor Suite allows you to add multiple accounts across supported cryptocurrencies, send and receive funds, and explore features like staking and portfolio tracking all within a secure environment.
